Avoid Big Price Increases

Why Preparing Early Saves Money

Preparing early for hurricane season and putting your supply kit together is guaranteed to safe you money. Recent reports have shown that when a hurricane is 1-3 days away, prices on goods increases anywhere from 10% – 50% quickly!

When storms like Hurricane Idalia (2023) threatened Florida’s Gulf Coast, prices rose quickly. Bottled water prices surged up to 50%. Plywood and roofing tarps sold out quickly with price spikes of 30% or more. Flashlights and batteries become become hard to find and nearly doubled in price.

Ahead of Hurricane Ian (2022), water cases doubled from $4 to $8 in 72 hours. Basic generators rose 40% from $600-$800. Canned/dry food increased 10%-20%.

Bottom line: Expect to pay 15% – %40% more for bottled water, batteries, flashlights and basic food a few days before a hurricane vs. preparing now.
